Do you know what is a parlour game? Well, a parlour game is just a group game played indoors. During the Victorian era in Great Britain and in the United States, these games were extremely popular among the upper and middle classes. They were often played in a parlour, hence the name, by gentlemen and ladies to amuse themselves at small parties. Unfortunately, parlour games decreased in popularity in the first half of the 20th century as radio, movies, and later, television captured more of the public's leisure time.
In Entropy we love parlour games, and we always play them in our spare time. For example, one of our favorites parlour games is Consequences, in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal part of the writing, and then pass it to the next player for a further contribution. Surrealists use a similar technique called “Exquisite Corpse”. An exquisite corpse is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed.
Surrealism principal founder André Breton reported that it started to play consequences game just for fun about 1925, but became playful and eventually enriching. In fact, the name Exquisite Corpse is derived from a phrase that resulted when Surrealists first played the game, "Le cadavre exquis boira le vin nouveau." ("The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine.").
Being software developers, we ask ourselves: is there a way to share our passion for parlour games with other people? Is there a way to play together in a virtual parlour? And, of course, the answer is Yes. So, we have developed a version of Consequences for mobile phones. It is called
Crazy Stories, and it is available for download from App Store and Android Market.
Crazy Stories is not just another game for mobile phones. Crazy Stories is a proof of concept of a new generation of games we are developing for mobile phones: casual, social, and of course, mobile.
We would like to invite all of you to download the game and let know us if you enjoyed it and what do you think. Also you can join our
Carzy Stories Forum and help us to make Crazy Stories a better game.
