AdMobs brings us information about iPhone OS versions

Statistics are hard to gather in a platform like the Apple's iPhone, but there are some companies powerful enough to have their own statistics about the market... AdMob is one of those.

They can gather various information through their AdMob SDK present in numerous 3rd party apps, so they released some of their valuable information to the public today. During the week of September 15th-22nd, 23% of the iPhone users had already updated to iPhone OS 3.1. 51% of users had iPhone OS 3.0, the rest had previous versions of the OS. So far, it's about 74% of people having iPhone OS >= 3.0. While only 35% of the iPod Touch users were using the OS 3.0 (it's no surprise since the upgrade isn't free).

So, iPhone developers out there... test your apps for the iPhone OS 2.0 because there still are lots of people using it, mostly iPod Touch users.

Last report form Admobs shows someting interesting: 40% of the ads market is for the iPhone! We already new that iPhone users are those who use more networked apps, but now Admobs provide real market data.

I find it inconceivable and plainly shameful that software updates for iPod touch aren't free.
